Salla’s Church offers a unique place to stop and reflect in quiet surroundings. You can come to the church for worship, to admire the art and architecture, or even to take a moment to calm down and pray. Enjoy a moment of sanctity and store a touch of protection with you – in the middle of nowhere.

Salla’s Church is the most significant historical monument of post-war Finnish church architecture. The Salla church belongs to the selection of Finnish modern architecture masterpieces accepted by the international architecture research and conservation organization DOCOMOMO (International Committee for Documentation and Conservation of Buildings, sites and Neighborhoods of Modern Movement). Inside the church, the character of the steep-crested stone church of the late Middle Ages is combined with the ideals and materials of modernism.

The church has been described as bold and of high quality in terms of construction technology. The building holds influences from the churches of the Middle Ages and combined its architecture, creating a new shape for the construction of churches throughout the 1950s. In the interior architecture, Lutheran asceticism has been striven for, so that the artistic details and decorative motifs, especially the altar relief, can make an even greater impact. In the church, you can see, among other things, lamps designed by Paavo Tynell, glass reliefs by Yrjö Rosola and tapestries by Martta Taipalee.
